Garden Committees

  • Plant, water, and weed the communal beds located in the East or West gardens.

    Note: You must sign up for each side individually.

  • Maintain the composting systems and instruct members regarding acceptable composting practices.

  • Craft content for the website, social media, and monthly newsletters.

  • Plan, publicize, and coordinate all events in the garden including:

    • flea markets

    • children’s events

    • holiday parties

    • music performances.

    We encourage all members to volunteer on a “per event” basis.

  • Draft and submit grants on behalf of the Friends of West 104th Street supporting nonprofit.

    Work with the events committee to develop fundraiser events.

  • Assist with planting, watering, weeding, plant sales & related events.

  • Mow, weed, water, rake, reseed as necessary lawns, trim edges, and maintain mowers, weed trimmer, & other relevant tools.

    Repair and maintain beds frames, furniture, and garden buildings.

  • Ensure members are signing up for and fulfilling monitoring duties as part of standard membership requirements.

  • Assist with projects having to do with rat control.

  • Prune, feed, weed, and water rose garden (West Garden).

  • Shovel snow and salt sidewalks during snowy weather.

  • Bag all trash & recycling, put bags & bundles on the sidewalk for pick up on
    appropriate days. Assure bags are available & organized in the sheds.

  • Plant and maintain tree pits and front of the garden, regularly sweep & clear away trash that accumulates in the pits and along the fences.

    Coordinate annual spring bulb planting.

  • Fill barrels on an as-needed basis during the growing season. We encourage all members to volunteer for this task at least once a year.

    Maintain hoses and equipment. Contact necessary parties re: hydrant & cistern maintenance.
